No-Smoking Month: a game to support your teams

Your employees become the buddy of Sam, a colleague who quits smoking on November 1st. For 30 days they follow him at the office, on breaks, at the occupational doctor's and at a farewell drinks party, and make the decisions that help him hold on.

What your teams will go through

  1. 1

    October 31st

Search Sam's desk and throw out what would make him slip the next day: the lighter in his jacket, the pack at the back of the drawer, the ashtray on the balcony.

  2. 2

    Week 1: the cravings

On the coffee break, colleagues go down for a smoke. What do you tell him during the few minutes the craving builds?

  3. 3

Week 2: at the occupational doctor's

Sam has doubts about weight gain, whether nicotine replacements are reimbursed, and the point of quitting after twenty years. The doctor answers, then suggests a treatment.

  4. 4

Week 3: at the office, then the drinks

Vaping at work, then the riskiest evening: a drink in hand, the smokers' terrace. Sam holds on, or slips, and the game shows what to do either way.

  5. 5

    Week 4: what Sam gains

The lift is out of order: Sam climbs four floors without stopping. What his body has recovered, in order.

What they take away

  • A craving only lasts a few minutes, and a few simple habits help it pass.
  • Nicotine replacements can be reimbursed on prescription, and the occupational doctor can prescribe them.
  • Vaping is banned in enclosed, covered shared workplaces.
  • A slip is not a failure: spot what triggered it and start again.
  • The benefits start within minutes, and it is never too late to quit.

Adapt it to your company

  1. 1Click “Adapt this game” and create your account.
  2. 2The game is copied into your space, and the assistant asks you who it is for.
  3. 3It rewrites it for your company: you review, adjust, then share the link.

When to run it

The game follows Sam's month week by week, from the day before he quits. Run it just before a smoke-free month to prepare the challenge, or during it to support those who have taken the plunge.

Frequently asked questions

Do players need an account?

No. The game opens in the browser, on a computer or a phone, with no sign-up or install.

How long does a game take?

About twenty minutes, in five parts: the day before, then one per week.

Is the information reliable?

Each fact sheet in the game cites its source (French public-health sources, WHO, French law). Reimbursement and the rules on vaping at work vary by country: have them reviewed by your occupational health service, and adapted to local regulations, before you share the game.

What can we change when adapting it?

Everything: the text, the character's name and job, the places, the images, the tone, your logo and your colours. The editor's assistant rewrites the game from what you tell it about your company.

Are smokers being singled out?

No: the player is not the smoker, they support a colleague. So the game speaks to every employee, whether they smoke or not.
