Categorize, a place for every card

A stack of cards and 2 to 4 categories. The player puts each card in the right one, then submits.

Describe your game: the assistant builds it, you fine-tune it.

How it works

Sorting forces people to understand what sets one category apart from another. To place a card, the player has to spot the criterion that matters, and that reasoning is what stays with them after the game.

Players see every category at once and can move a card around until they submit. They compare, hesitate and change their minds, just like at a real sorting board.

For the player

  1. 1Cards wait in a tray, facing 2 to 4 colored zones, each with its own name.
  2. 2The player drags each card into a zone, or taps a card and then the zone. Tapping a card that's already placed sends it back to the tray.
  3. 3A counter shows how many cards are left. On submit, each card turns green or red.

What you set

  • Create 2 to 4 categories, each with a name and a color.
  • Add your cards as text, images or both, and pick the category for each one.
  • Set the tries, the points for each try and the timer, 30 seconds by default.
  • Add hints and your own success, try-again and fail messages.

Ideas for using it

  • Waste sorting

Sort everyday items into recycling, compost and trash.

  • Personal data

File pieces of information as sensitive data, personal data or non-personal data.

  • Risk assessment

Place real field situations at the right level of risk.

  • Company values

Link concrete behaviors to the value each one shows.

Frequently asked questions

How do I make a categorization game online?

In the Ludiz editor, add a Categorize step, name your categories, then add the cards and their category. The AI assistant can also build the step from a description, illustrated cards included.

How many categories can I have?

Between 2 and 4 per step, each with its own name and color. There is no set number of cards to sort.

How is it different from swipe cards?

Swipe cards come one at a time and go to one side or the other. Categorize shows every card and up to 4 categories at once, and players can change their minds before they submit.
