Game mechanicsPadlock game: the combination lock
Players turn the dials of a lock to find the right combination, just like in an escape room.
Describe your game: the assistant builds it, you fine-tune it.
How it works
The lock shows a row of dials, each with a digit or a letter. Players have to dial in the right combination to open the step.
The answer lives somewhere else: in an image, a video, a riddle or the steps before. Players have to search, cross-check and deduce, which makes opening the lock a satisfying moment. The AI assistant can build this step from a description.
For the player
- 1Players read the riddle and study the media next to it. That's where the clues to the code are.
- 2They turn each dial with the arrows above and below it, by swiping up or down, or by typing the digit or letter on a keyboard.
- 3They submit the combination. If it's wrong, they can try again as long as they have tries left.
What you set
- Add as many dials as you need and set each one to digits (0 to 9) or letters (A to Z). You can mix both.
- Enter the correct value for each dial and reorder them by drag and drop.
- Put the riddle in the instructions and add the media (image, video, audio) that holds the clues.
- Add hints with a point cost, and set tries, the timer and whether the solution appears after a miss.
Ideas for using it
Training escape room
End each room with a lock whose code is hidden in the things players search.
Cybersecurity awareness
Hide the code in a fake phishing email so people learn to read it closely.
Onboarding finale
Each completed module gives a digit, and the final lock brings them together.
Site safety
The code is the number of fire extinguishers or exits players spot on a floor plan.
Frequently asked questions
How do I add a combination lock to an online escape room?
In the Ludiz editor, add a Lock step, create your dials and enter the right combination. Then put the clues in the instructions or in an image, video or audio.
Can the code use letters?
Yes. Each dial uses either digits or letters from A to Z, and you can combine both in the same lock.
What if players get stuck?
You can add hints, with or without a point cost, and show the correct combination after the last missed try.
