Card match: every card in its place on the picture

Players drag cards, with text or images, onto areas of an illustration. Each drop is checked on the spot: the right card stays, the wrong one bounces back.

How it works

Card match combines a background image, target areas and a hand of cards. Players don't wait to submit: a card dropped in the right place locks in, while a wrong one shakes and returns to the hand.

That instant feedback makes for a fast, punchy game that works well against the clock. The cards shown are drawn at random each time, so the game stays fresh on replay. You add this step by hand in the editor, drawing the areas right on your image.

For the player

  1. 1The player sees the image with their hand of cards below. If card flip is on, the cards stay face down for a brief moment.
  2. 2They drag each card onto its matching area, or tap the card and then the area, which is easier on a phone.
  3. 3A right card stays in place, a wrong one shakes and goes back to the hand. Once the last card is placed, the step is complete.

What you set

  • Upload the background image, then draw, move and resize the target areas on it, choosing a style for each: color, dashed outline or invisible.
  • Create the cards (text, image or both) and link each one to its target area.
  • Add text labels on the image, cap the number of cards per area, or hide cards once they are dropped.
  • Choose how many cards are drawn at random each game (at least one per area) and turn on card flip if you like.
  • Like other games: a timer, points based on the number of tries, hints that cost points, and success and failure messages.

Ideas for using it

  • Waste sorting

Drag packaging, batteries and cartridges to the right bin on a photo of a recycling area, for a sustainability module.

  • Protective equipment

Place the helmet, gloves and goggles on an operator's silhouette before a shift starts.

  • Hazard symbols

Match each hazard pictogram to its meaning on a lab or warehouse poster.

  • Store layout

Put the products of a new line on the right shelf of a store floor plan.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between card match and drag and drop?

In card match, each drop is checked right away and only the correct area accepts the card. In drag and drop, players place everything freely, then submit their whole answer.

How do I make a card matching game online?

Add a Card match step in the Ludiz editor, upload your image, draw the areas, then create the cards and pick the area for each one. No code needed.

Does it work on phones?

Yes. Players can drag a card with a finger, or tap the card and then its area, which is more precise on a small screen.
